In a troubling incident near Ramnagar in Uttarakhand's Nainital district, a car collided with a roadside divider, resulting in severe injuries to the occupants. Among the injured are Vikas Chandra, the sub-district magistrate of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, and his wife, Dr. Diksha Sharma. This information was confirmed by local police on Sunday.
According to police reports, the accident occurred late Saturday night in Pirumadara while Chandra was driving with his wife. Their vehicle struck a divider on National Highway-309 and flipped multiple times.
The police indicated that both individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital in Pirumadara for immediate medical attention. Given the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently referred to a hospital in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, and later to another facility in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Dr. Siddharth Sharma, a physician at the Pirumadara hospital, stated that both patients arrived in critical condition. The car involved in the accident was also extensively damaged.
Local residents have expressed concerns, claiming that the Pirumadara section of the national highway has become increasingly prone to accidents, with nearly ten incidents reported in just the past month. They attributed the accidents to the poor construction of the divider, lack of reflective signage, and inadequate lighting at night. Authorities have been notified about the divider's condition, and administrative officials have assured that measures will be taken to enhance road safety and prevent future accidents after a thorough investigation.
